The Vampire Diaries é uma série de livros de terror e romance da autora estadunidense L. Jane Smith sobre a vida de uma garota que se vê às voltas com dois irmãos vampiros.

A trilogia original foi inicialmente publicada em 1991. Com a pressão dos leitores, Lisa Jane Smith lançou em 1992 mais um volume, Dark Reunion, sem previsão de lançamento no Brasil.

No Brasil, por enquanto, o primeiro volume da série será publicado em setembro de 2009, sob o nome de "Os Diários de Vampiro - Despertar".

Ainda, em Setembro estreia na HBO o seriado inspirado em Vampire Diaries.

Lisa Jane Smith, dantes também conhecida como L.J. Smith e atualmente com o nome de Ljane Smith, cujas obras são uma combinação de genero de horror, ficção, fantasia e romance, obteve o reconhecimento do público com a série Diários do Vampiro, cujo primeiro livro é Despertar.

Ljane Smith recently changed her name because she got tired of being one of a googolplex of Lisa J. Smiths. Her attempts to get people to call her by her new name have not, so far, been successful. Despite initial disappointments, she will not give up the fight! She also wonders if many people out there realize that “smiths” were revered in ancient times for their ability to take bits of rock and magically turn them into useful items like swords, maces, flails, daggers, dirks, spears, halberds, arrowheads, katanas, and, eventually, lead shot and brass knuckles. And spatulas. Spatulas used to be made of metal. For this reason, smiths were thought to be a wee bit uncanny, and it was a brave man or woman who crossed them. There are few who can face up to a really well-honed spatulaor, for that matter, to cutting irony, which in Ye Good Olde Days was made of real iron.

Ljane lives in the Bay Area of California, where it is always sunny except when it rains. She has a cat and lots of books. She gets most of her ideas when she is asleep.
